Open Eyes Poem by Keli Mims

Open Eyes

[Optional: this one is for Diron. I love your advice. Thank you so much for everything]

You don't ever have to ask permission,
But you always need to ask forgiveness,
Take risks and live your life,
Love, hate, worry, lust, and strife,
Friends fight, parents yell, and people die,
It's all going to happen so don't ask why,
So never ask for anyone's permission,
But in the wrong plea forgiveness,

A war between right and wrong wage,
In every chapter, section, and page,
Never a clear choice till the aftermath,
Just calm down, say sorry, and laugh,
Move on in life and continue to write,
You are the author of your own life,
Never close the book just turn the page,
Continue to right of the battles that wage,

Don't let fear keep you from your book,
And never judge with only one look,
Don't worry that you're writing in pen,
Just learn from mistakes and old sin,
Don't scratch out the mistakes of past,
They may fade but they will always last,
So don't shut someone down without a look,
Continue to hope and finish your book,

So of the choices of right and wrong,
You don't know how to be strong,
Till it's the only thing you can be,
You never even know how to truly see,
Until you see with open eyes.
