Opportunity Poem by Aidan Clevinger

Opportunity

Every day they come along,
Chances to make things better.
New cars! New cosmetics! New clothets!
Out with the old,
In with the new!
Opportunity! Opportunity! Opportunity!
That golden chance to win.
That fantastic way to be:
Prettier!
Wealthier!
Smarter!
But none of these things keep their allure:
Beauty passes with age,
Wealth rusts,
Intelligence turns to madness.
All these things fade to memories.
What opportunities do I look for?
The opportunity of a Savior's gift,
A Father's love,
A Spirit's leadership,
And the bond between friends.
Keep your snake-oil salesmen.
I have love; that greatest of blessings.
Your words will fail.
Your cars will rust.
But the love of my friends,
And the love of my God will remain.
