Opposing Forces Poem by grace mariner

Opposing Forces

Rating: 5.0

And a year has passed between us.
An eternity in days counted by the heart.
You exist in another place and time, with other damsels
in distress and jesters in your court.
I had served...have served this duality for you long enough.
I no longer search that far off horizon to see your long
shadow there.
You have moved into that lost grove, disappearing from my sight.
At times I think I see you, a glimpse as you may see
a stag in the wood.
Carefully camouflaged but not imperceptible to a wanting eye.
So now another baits me, enticing me away from you.
I'll take the hook, to thwart the exile you left me in.
And in a world of illusions, he is plain.
A quiet, unembellished soul.
You could command a room just with your towering presence,
and your colossal arrogance.
He, as quiet as a mouse, will enter without a sound,
with no need to be heralded, no need for fanfare.
He is a single candle burning while you are an inferno.
And while I miss your passion and your heat,
I don't miss standing in the shadows of all who were before me.
I want to be still for awhile, and warm myself
in the luminescence of the candles flame.

Whoa! This is very powerful! A great poem of lost love. I especially like the ending: He is a single candle burning while you are an inferno. And while I miss your passion and your heat, I don't miss standing in the shadows of all who were before me. I want to be still for awhile, and warm myself in the luminescence of the candle's flame.
