Orbiting Poem by Dave Dunn

Orbiting

Orbiting

Orbiting around within my head
All the lies he stood and said
All his lies were swallowed well
How many more has he had to tell

Never before that fateful day
Had I ever felt the law to sway
So far from the straight and true
But now I have a clearer view

When expeditious it now would seem
A beast from A Midsummer Nights Dream
Is portrayed so well behind the bench
Though not by every single wench

Senses scarcely back to the norm
Forgive me if I seem forlorn
Seldom have I considered more
The lack of reason in the law

Spinning still these thoughts abound
In repose I'll now be found
Safer than the upright stance
While the ground is seen to dance

Once long past I took the stand
Proud then to support the man
Who outside the bank did fall
Under blows from two quite tall

Youths with a mind to steal his cash
And so they soon went off in a dash
For freedom but we chased them down
Before they reached the end of town

Blue lights flashed and cuffs came out
We walked back and talked about
All we'd seen over some tea
The victim had our sympathy

Now I know there's more that I could say
Perhaps I will another day
Just this moment I start to choke
The week began with such hope

Orbiting around within my head
Now that hope is gone and dead
