Seventy years ago on the 6th of June 1944
an armada of ships sailed
across the English Channel to the Normandy shore
where thousands of allied soldiers
scrambled up the beaches
under heavy fire as the invasion began.
Sadly some didn't make it
and fell as they attempted to land.
The years have passed along,
yet we still remember them
and the sacrifices these heroes made to end a war
to restore freedom again across many lands.
A year would go by
and many more would die
before surrender was heard
and a new day dawned over Europe
and VE day was born.
As the years have marched on
we remember those who
fell way before their time
to give us something
we hold precious today
- our freedom.
