Our Funeral Poem by Dana Lamb

Our Funeral

Rating: 5.0

I went to a funeral today
I saw you and me in each other’s arms
Lying on a bed of satin and sleeping like children
For one last time
Sun rays caressed our faces
And then they shut the lid
There were flowers strewn all over our coffin
Delicate white chrysanthemum petals
They were a thousand stolen kisses
They were our crushed hopes
I didn’t shed a tear
Draped in my bridal veil
I knelt at our gravestone in silence
I saw wilting blades of green grass
I saw seasons changing
I saw golden autumn leaves
Dancing around our dear grave
In my mourning
I braved snow blizzards and rainstorms
And never moved an inch
All my thoughts were of you
I prayed I could recover us
Awaken us from this eternal sleep
I was alive and we were dead
And one day
It was an unremarkable day
I rose to my knees and walked away
