We always remember
our wedding day,
the hymns we sang,
and the vows we took
and church bells ringing.
We never thought
of the troubles that might come,
only the good times ahead.
There were no regrets
following us down the isle,
only beaming faces
filled with a smile.
The outside world
didn’t encroach on our moment of joy,
as girl and boy
became man and wife
to live to together forever.
Nor did we think
of any sadness and pain
that our lives would be strained
or falling out of love
was never on our mind
nor the pain that would incur,
only the happiness that we might find.

Author’s note:
Before anyone asks, this is not about Vera and me. We are still very happy and will be celebrating our 39th Wedding Anniversary later this year.
