Ph: Memorial: Simply Bob Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Memorial: Simply Bob

Rating: 4.8

A mentor and always my friend
A frolicking force in my life
His presence was always for good.
A tune that was easy to hum
And truly a fun sing-a-long,
He carried his share of the wood.

A servant, disciple of truth
An athlete who gave it his all,
He'd back you up if you felt fear.
A man who sometimes warmed the bench,
But always a cheer on his lips
And more than once - Man of My Year!

His first wife brought Bob's life a frost
That lasted more than twenty years -
Depression that could not be cured.
Wiv's sickness, though nobody's fault,
Was still sometimes laid at his feet,
A tragedy they all endured.

New marriage brought a second chance,
A younger wife Louise and son,
Bob prospered in her tutelage.
It was a marriage heaven blessed,
Where testing no more ruled the day,
And this love ushered in new age.

And now with daughter and with son,
With step-son too launched in the world,
At peace at last with all outcomes,
Bob sang this song with family,
‘She's coming round the mountain when
She comes, ' with repeat, ‘when She comes! '

i thought frolicking would have two ls. i was wrong. and i guess i was a bit surprised at the spelling frolic. not a word i've used or heard used much in my lifetime. of course brian is much older than i am! :) and i - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2 frolic verb : to play and move about happily frol·ickedfrol·ick·ing Full Definition of FROLIC intransitive verb 1 : to amuse oneself: make merry 2 : to play and run about happily: romp — frol·ick·er noun See frolic defined for English-language learners » See frolic defined for kids » Examples of FROLIC We watched the seals as they frolicked in the harbor. children frolicking in the yard First Known Use of FROLIC 1593 [101 years after C. Columbus discovered and subjugated/destroyed people/Indians in the New World][those are my, bri edward's words] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i have a college friend who also 'endured' a long marriage complicated by his wife's depression. no children, at least, thank goodness! now, divorced or widowed? , he too married a much younger woman and they have four kids, one named after me (the son) . i liked Man of My Year, as opposed to Man of The Year. i also appreciated the rhyming (including the scheme) , even though the rhyming is not as 'brilliant' as mine tends to be. again, brian is MUCH older than i am! ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - brian has told me that Bob was a tennis partner over several decades. so, brian, was the wood his tennis racket or firewood or what? thanks for sharing. bri :)

An impressive and poetically polished tribute to your friend. Your effulgent depiction affords the Reader the honor of feeling as if they got to know Bob....My sympathies for your loss...~FjR~
