Platoon Poem by Faith Wood

Platoon

Stand up tall and fight on your own
You're not one to need a platoon behind you
But you've been spoiled by having such great
mean by your side whenever needed,
their hands next to yours
makes you feel just right at home
But it's the moment that you least expect,
that'll show up in your dreams time and time again
and as you turn over, itching to get back to sleep,
you'll realize that all great battles,
must be fought alone
No time for laughter and conversation,
it's about making it out alive
and finding solid ground so you can stand up tall
