Poem Of Life Poem by Gordon Smith

Poem Of Life

When the sun shines as it is today
Words are lost to say
How much I long to be
Somewhere along the sea

Where the waves break upon the shore
Creating such a lovely roar
All time stands still while standing there
With the sea and sun and sand in my hair

I dream of life as a storybook
Deeply into the pages I look
Trying to follow the story line
And an understanding in my mind

But today the words aren’t very clear
It is saying things I don’t want to hear
I want a happy ending at the book’s end
Not the same happening again and again..

Oh, the sea is calling me away
Far from this cloudy day
To the warmth and the fun
A dream world in the sun

But as I set here and look
At this weathered and worn book
I can’t help but feel sad
For all the things that went bad

The many people, hurt because of me
Acting so selfishly
I thought I was so cool
But ended up a hurt fool.

Standing at the sandy shore
I hold my life’s book once more
I look out to the deep blue sea
And toss the book away from me.

Slowly in the surf it drifts away,
With all my feeling and emotions, there’s nothing to say
It slowly disappears in the salty foam
Nothing to do now, but turn away and go back home.
