Terrorism, Nazism, Fundamentalism all fueled by literalism. The cockroach must be ground underfoot there is no need for remorse because all that has been killed is a cockroach, after all.
The poet uses metaphor to give space for otherness, so the cockroach of the poet is beyond cockroach - it is father, son, lover, doctor, teacher, factory worker. If you kill this cockroach you will feel remorse.

Seems appropriate that I rebuttal to this one.... the crocodile and the cockroach... been around a long time.... the big, the small.... one bites, one snaps and so often it is us that slaps.... keep writing them One Peace at a Time... aroha from Emancipation Planz |

The next time I snap on the light on the back porch, and see a million-pus-one scurrying...I will reconsider about 2 seconds, before spraying. Emphatically, a poet can use any vehicle to get a point across and you have done this ultra well! ! xxElysabeth |
