Poise Poem by Shreej k.c

Poise

I'm not the one who easily gets breathless
I'm not the one who tires so soon
Don't scare me of the darkness
'Cause what I dare is to touch the moon

If I wished I need not share
And everything could be mine
Don't tell me that I'm not fair
'Cause I believe all should reign

I have the power to do much harm
Yet I present myself very sober
Don't undermine me for I'm calm
'Cause I only pray peace all over

I'm not about to quit
I'm not about to flee
Don't push me beyond limit
'Cause its just I wish to be free

I'm the one and I'm the only
Of myself I'm proud
Now don't consider me lonely
'Cause though I differ I'm within the crowd.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem during my first year at med school. I wrote it as a fiction on 'dignity/self respect'. When I showed it to one of my friends asking her to suggest a topic, she told me the poem describes me completely, she said-'its you! ' I couldn't argue with her because she was my friend since grade four and also she was always very mature for her age. I felt uncomfortable and awkward. I just closed the notebook and never turned that page again! Today as I reopen it I think what bothered me then was the fact that while writing fiction sometimes a part of you can reflect in it. It also depends on the writer's maturity and it was only the second poem of an amateur writer. As I realize this today it makes me smile and I finally choose the topic though in haste!
