Poison Poem by Dennis Walker

Poison

How many lives must be ruined seeking that thrill?
The powder the dust a simple little pill
It starts off so innocent at a party with friends
You think I will just try it once but the chasing never ends
That high that thrill you have to score
But each time you take it you need more and more
You are the dealer’s best friend when money you possess
They smile as you walk away and think O what a mess
Knowing they have you soon you will be back
Giving them your money on that one way track
Its not only self destruction screaming to the wall
But family friends you hurt them one and all
The people you love look on wondering what can be done
Seeing the poison killing you a daughter a son
Watching you start to change feeling they don’t know you
Turning and praying O God what can we do
If they are lucky you will see
That this is not the way you should be
But so many on this path stumble and fall
And all that is left is that dreaded knock on the door or the phone call
Leaving all the un-answered questions for family and friends
Worst of all leaving them with a pain that never ends
