Police - When Broken Dreams Have Transpired Poem by Paul Warren

Police - When Broken Dreams Have Transpired

I wonder now that my work is nearly done
Of times when I thought that the day was won
But then some have their dreams broken as transpired
And the outcome for them was more than a little mired

I see the hopelessness in their eyes as we drive away
They will sometimes beg of you to do more and stay
But your duty has ended and you know you can't do more
You leave even when they say stay in their implore

You may want to do more but you know it can't be
Sometimes everything you do is not enough you see
And you can't sleep because it plays on your mind
When you have to know it will not be kind.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
You can't fix everything and sometimes you have to leave knowing that it will only get worse. You have to balance what is achievable with your duty and it is a sobering thought.
