Potential Poem by Anne Onymous

Potential

I missed my lift from life again
And watched it drive on by
I stood and waved and grimly smiled
and walked the thousand miles

to when I had my time again
and laughed till sunrise came
and lived and loved and told wild tales
danced naked in the rain

and chanced upon a special soul
who kept me safe and warm
and showed me how it was to live
and loved me through till dawn

and how his eyes danced blue like ice
upon his smiling face
and woke me in the morning with
a kiss in my special place

and though we have not ever met
I don't suppose theres time?
He is still here, though far away
In the land of ice and rhyme.

We meet most times in that warm safe space
twixt sleep and waking dreams
and spend some time just looking past
How empty our lives seem

They arent of course, we have our kids
And friends and lovers same
But an empty space within us both
cries out for joy not pain

And so I turn with heaving heart
back to my daily life
mistress, daughter, friend and foe
Mother, lover, wife.
