Prelude To A Parade Poem by bob barci

Prelude To A Parade

It’s a holiday -
today’s a holiday.
While I should still be in bed
I’m up at the crack of dawn
cause today’s a holiday.
Don’t have to worry about work today.
Take my pleasures with a smile.
Can’t explain this feeling inside -
seems like I felt it before – years ago.
The feeling of excitement is inside me.
Feels like I’ll explode at any time.
I beat the sun up today.
Woke to early morning darkness.
This excitement wants me to hurry.
Got to get out and be on time.
The earlier the better
and no matter how early I am,
I probably won’t be the first.
It’s a holiday,
today’s a holiday,
and I’m going to the parade.
