Pretence Poem by Rustiq Joy

Pretence

Rating: 5.0

Why are we pretending
Pretending to be successful?
After all, like they say
Fake it until
You make it, right?

Why are we pretending
Pretending to know the next move?
Although we know
No one always know the
The next move.

Why are we surrendering
To the world's opinion
On you and me?
And there lies the death
Of you and me.

Why are we surrendering
To the next best thing
Although the next best thing
Is just … a thing?

Why are we pretending
As if we don't know the truth?
Trying to convince our morality
The truth is a lie
The lie is the truth;
Subjective truths and lies.

Why are we pretending
That there will be a tomorrow?
No one knows of a tomorrow
Until tomorrow.

Why are we surrendering
To fleeting happiness
For short-lived gain?
Haven't we lived long enough
To know what lies behind it all?

Why are we surrendering?
Why are we pretending?
Why are we pretending
We surrendered it all?
All to Jesus I surrender
I surrender…. All?

My surrendering
My pretending
Yours, mine
All vanity, all vain
Light a match
Set them ablaze
They are fit for the flames.

Watch them burn.
