Treasure Island

Prom Queen

Lights pulsating in rhythm of my throbbing heart
The moment of truth
Sinking or swimming in this game of fate
Almost like diving from the Eiffel Tower
Into a twelve-inch kiddie pool
Survival would be legendary
Failure would be pitied
The silly girl
Not a hero
An object of ridicule
All too late
Tonight’s the night

Butterflies rampaging in my stomach
The golden envelope in sight
With life-changing contents
For the better
Or for the worst
All too late
Tonight’s the night

Poem of the Day

poet Sara Teasdale

Only in sleep I see their faces,
Children I played with when I was a child,
Louise comes back with her brown hair braided,
Annie with ringlets warm and wild.
