Promise Poem by MATSEPE MOLEFI

Promise

Promise

There we were,
Shifting and drifting,
Our emotions into words,
Our numbers into surds,
Saddened with hope,
Only promises without faith.

Great times we had,
Cold hearts we have,
It's funny we once called it love,
Yet love is a promise delivered broke,

Not that we weren't good enough,
Only our promises wasn't,
Yet our hearts denied the truth,
No fibre in us did,
Yet promises flee with time.

Now that they did,
They just faded with the morning most,
Left us there, where we once made them,

Left us there with broken hearts,
Tears falling down on our Lonely faces,
Years passing by with tender reed,
Yet promises never fulfilled.
