Prophets, Scholars And Kings Erased Poem by Andy Brookes

Prophets, Scholars And Kings Erased

Part One: Prophets, Scholars and Kings Erased

Deep gauged stones lie fallen, jigsaws riddles on ancient walls
or wax pressed moulds melted by too many suns.
some wrought in cold dark stream fed caves
deep in funereal earth made by deft atavistic hands
gaze hidden far from destroyers, deep delved in secret sacred crevices,
where water drips in slow precision leaving red painted hand prints
or roaming on sandstone rifts, bison and horses, there in the darkness dwell messages for the underworld gods.

Part Two Queen Wizards and Hexes Vexes

Written there prophetic words upon riven glacial portals,
enigmatic, jumped from synaptic vaults of shroud fed thoughts.
or worn by desert sands no more heard but upon the wind.
magical spell on amulets leading to the river Styx.
erased by timeless drifting yellow dunes ornamented by the tides
of loyal supplicants in dislocated incense soaked temples.

if you would read their enigmas in crumbling papyrus
or faded vellum, long lost works of philosophers and queens
they are but the transient opuses of man, too soon their wisdom is forgotten and we learn nothing from the past and repeat all their seismic faults.
