Purposeless Wandering Poem by Boghos Artinian

Purposeless Wandering

The purposeless wandering
Of my deaf and blind old dog
Breaks my heart.

To give him purpose, I call,
I wave, but he doesn't notice,
Nor come to me.

He often bumps into us
And we have to avoid stepping
On him if sleeping.

To offer him food, we touch it
To his mouth, or else he has to
Scramble for it by smell.

I am also old, but thank God
I hear, I see, and I still
Wander with purpose!
