Ready For The Fall Poem by Alfred Ramos

Ready For The Fall

Ready For the Fall
Turn your head
Stare skyward
A warm gust of air
Turns a thought of coming dread
Clouds multiply
Playing tag with ducks flying south
Down wind
A mouth complains
Takes it on the chin
Confusion settles in
It’s how it’s always been
Friends in time
Shake hands in rhyme
Hand me down dreams awake
From afternoon naps
The sun kneels down
Leaves flutter to the ground
The garden gate creaks open
To scattered echoes
Of homemade chimes
Must be the season of change
The rearrangement of colors
Laying a tapestry
For coming events
No one ever prevents
The heat wave shimmers in the distance
Time offers no resistance
But you can’t have it all
All you can do
Is be ready for the Fall
