Rating: 5.0

Is it real
Or just an illusion?
Of my inebriated mind
A pure concoction?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Jagat Guru Aadi Shankara said, "Brahma Satyam Jagan Mithya / Jeevo Brahmaiva Naaparaഃ' (ബ്രഹ്മ സത്യം ജഗൻമിഥ്യ/ ജീവോ ബ്രഹ്മൈവ നാ അപരഃ) Brahma is the ultimate truth, which remains without any change (Vikalpa) , whereas the ‘world' is unstable and is subject to changes, it is mithya. But, the living beings including man is not different from Brahma. They are not two, but One Uniqueness. This is the basic philosophy of Adwaita propounded by the Jagat Guru. Words that need explanation: (1) Inebriated: not intoxicated; but dumbed, stupefied and affected by the unstable harrowing worldly experiences, including exhilaration. (2) Illusion: ‘Mithya' in Sanskrit. The worldly facts, things and experiences that are subject to many changes, short-lived, by exuding the positive illusion that all of them are "permanent" in nature.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I was astonished to find a cave at Mount Abu in Rajasthan, where he is said to have sat in meditation for months.

I have been attracted by the philosophy of Jagat Guru Aadi Shankara from my childhood. But have not been able to truly understand even the basics. Readers are recommended to read the series of Poems on Aadi Shankara and his philosophy by our master poet Geeta Radhakrishna Menon.
