Rediscovered Poem by Amy Serhienko

Rediscovered

I look across the room
and there you are.
I've watched for you to return,
looked for you,
waited patiently,
never knowing you were already here.
Right down the street,
living your life
as I sat back and watched mine pass by.
Why can I only now see you,
when you've been here all along?
Maybe it's because I'm ready now.
Ready to learn all you have to teach.
Ready to share your spotlight
instead of lingering in your shadow.
Ready to tell you the things I was afraid you would hear.
Ready to share what I didn't have to give before -
myself.
