Reflected Misery Poem by Jamie Ellen Christian

Reflected Misery

Barren tree
Where are your leaves and fruit
Standing naked in the chill
Did someone steal your suit
I remember your broad leaves
Seems like they adorned you just yesterday
*No my child
*They were not taken from me
*They just simply couldn't stay
*When the winds became cold
All my foilage fell away

Oh you sad little tree
How this season has done you wrong
No bird will find cover upon you
No longer in your branches will it sing it's song
I'm sorry winter took your leaves
I'll pray it won't be long
*Sweet child
*Pray not for me but for you
*Leaves grow and fall, come and go
*This all mankind knows
*That is the life of trees
*But for you, there's something else you think you see

Who me
Only that your branches are empty
And that you stand here bare and alone
*You fool no one here my child
*The emptiness you speak of
*Is your own
*Covered you may be
*But I see straight to your bones
*Covered you are
*But it's your heart that is bare
*With that melancholy look upon your face
*Why at me do you stare
*You need to look at yourseld
*Because fear of this lonely night
*Is not something that we share
*And tell me please
*Why do you stand here
*Worrying about an old barren tree
*If I'm not a reflection of your own misery
