Reincarnation Poem by Ina D. Coolbrith

Reincarnation

Flashed from the arc-lit crowded street
One moment to my sight
A Face, with startled glance and fleet,
Then passed into the night.

A moment? Centuries! For, lo,
My feet in arid sands!
A word I knew and did not know,
A throb of clasping hands;

Dusk eyes, a-dream in dusky lids;
The moonlit mile on mile,
The angles of the Pyramids,
The slow wash of the Nile!
