Remembered Memories Poem by Ray Hansell

Remembered Memories

I opened up the closet door
To clean out the mess
When I removed the first box
Happiness I would express

Standing in the corner
Was my old acoustic guitar
The one thing I always thought
Would help me reach the star's

I pick it up and held it
It truly was a godsend
Believing many years ago
This was my only friend

I turned it just a little bit
Then I started strumming
A little faster then before
Soon a melody I was humming

It brought back so many memories
Of wonderful days gone by
I remembered all the happy times
There were a few that I cried

I would always sing love songs
A certain "she" liked me to play
It seems like another lifetime
Back in my younger days

I'll always remember
That special song I wrote
When I use to sing it
Only to her it spoke

I sang, how her eyes of blue
Had always captured me
She said, if we stay together
Love for sure will set us free

Well, that never happened
Because we were both way too young
But at least for a while
My songs of love to her I sung

I moved out to the west coast
She stayed behind
What we though we had
We could never really find

But holding this guitar
Is like holding her again
Remembering so long ago
How happy I was then

Leaving her was harder
Then anything I've ever done before
I put my guitar back in the closet
Then, I slowly closed the door

It felt like all my yesterdays
Came rushing back to me
So many dreams I dreamed back then
But none of them ever came to be
