Reminisce (Oldish) Poem by Shelby Barker

Reminisce (Oldish)

Let me start this serenade.. You’re gone, and what awaits?
Look behind that dresser drawer,
(the one that slightly sticks)
And discover long-forgotten dreams
Of a ten-year old mind, innocent
and wanting to be subjected
…To anything
And everything
the future cradled and protected
And beheld so it could…
Now,
Open that dusty photo album
Where smiling eyes sing softly
- Of what was everything -
Look, see
The expressions touching lightly
- On what was anything -
And under the gnawed bed is
an old orange shoebox
(In it is a carefree-soul)
Left from ago, it’s been unmoved
…In order to make room
For more important things to
dress up and put on display
Like attitude
It’s on that dusty shelf
if you’re looking
…I’m amazed at what I find when I lose myself
