Reminiscing Celtic Days Poem by Daniel McDonagh

Reminiscing Celtic Days

Green flags and banners
Down the old Gallowgate,
Buckfast and cider,
We drank with our mates,
A top ten of Celtic songs
On a Corporation bus,
The journey to Parkhead
Belonged to us.

It was in the old Jungle,
Were we used to congregate,
Singing songs of Ireland
And the troubles she’s met,
Then out from the tunnel,
The Hoops would appear,
Welcomed by thousands,
To a harmonic Celtic cheer.

Then it was 90 minutes
Of song and dance,
As the Bhoys on the pitch
Would entertain the fans,
Goal after goal,
Our songs grew loud,
As victory was welcomed
Under Glasgow’s dark clouds.

Then the walk back into town,
Never seemed so long,
Wrapped up in our scarf’s,
Preaching Celtic songs,
Then it was through George’s Square,
Were the pigeon’s would roam;
A quick stop at Haddows
Before the Possil bus took us home.
