Repentance Poem by Tobbie WhiteBird Crowe

Repentance

I'd sing a song of joy and praise
But I don't have the words.
I'd sing a song of my love for you
But the words just don't appear.
I'd sing a song of thank you Lord
For your grace in saving me;
But like a fool I turn my back
And return to what I was.
And still you stand there waiting
For me to see your love.

I've see the face of Satan,
I've heard his whispered lies.
Seen his power offered me,
Wealth beyond the skies.
I know he never keeps his word
How long he's wished my death
And still I watch when he comes around
Stead of standing on your grace.
And still you stand there waiting
Hands reaching out to me.

I cannot claim to understand
Your loving forgiveness.
I cannot claim I really know
The depth that you can love.
I can only bend my knees
In sorrow once again,
Let my tears speak to you
With words I can't express;
Forgive me Lord, for once again
I have failed the test.

Oh my Lord, please hold me tight
So I know more will stray.
Lord, keep me ever by your side
Seeking for your face.
Lord wash me ever in your blood
Keep evil far from me,
And help me see the other souls
Who've been blinded just like me;
To tell them how your waiting
To bring them home again.
