Reunion At Acadia Poem by Bill Galvin

Reunion At Acadia

Been full circle…
Bringing you home one last time,
To one last reunion on this sphere.
Your body is near your mother dear,
But I know your soul and spirit reside up here;
A place that changed you, opened the world for you;
And brought you so much peace.

I will always see you…
Sunning on a cool fall day on the warm granite stones,
Your eyes as blue as the October sky;
Walking the hillside trails to gain the island views,
Your heart as free as the falcon flying by.
I will always see you…
Watching the sun’s orange colors drop below the trees,
And your face taking on a light glow;
Walking the sandy beach at dusk,
As the moon and stars begin to show.

Been back a while now,
Staying in the place we called home.
It was a long and mournful journey,
One I needed to take, for ours, but mostly my sake.
I traveled far and wide,
To leave her essence across the countryside.
I’ve dropped many a tear from river banks;
I’ve wailed down long, lonely, red canyon walls;
I’ve had times where my heart so low down sank,
Then been lifted when another sunrise called;
I’ve grieved in dry, dusty, desert towns;
I’ve cried in crowds, and with no one else around.
I’ve cast reflections down from high mountain lakes,
And heard echoed suggestions on what roads to take;
And knowing every offering that I gave,
Every complaint I may have made along the way,
Brought me closer to accepting that she’s gone.

Lookbacks were painful, but rewarding;
Grieving words from my soul kept on flowing;
Rich remembrances resonated loud and clear;
They were all so loving and so dear.
And many times a Great Spirit came back around,
And stayed with me till emotions leveled down.

So, here we are, for reunions deepest of them all.
Here on this pink granite coastal shore,
Letting her locks fly away with the downeast breeze,
To greet the calming and cleansing sea…
I allow the serenity of the scene to wash over me.

And up on the summit…
Letting her locks drift down the mountain side,
Passing over blueberry patches in the clefts of stone,
To greet the woodland spirits in the valley below.

Again, the serenity of the scene washes over me;
And I am blessed by the spiritual, and transcendental,
That aid in the healing, and accepting that she’s gone.

We are bound still on this earthly floor,
While she has reached the end of her journey.
Her soul has reached the distant shore
With a heart full of rich and warm memories;
And those who knew her, enriched even more.

I will always see her…
Sunning on a cool fall day on the warm granite stones,
Her eyes as blue as the October sky;
Walking the hillside trails to gain the island views,
Her heart as free as the falcon flying by.
I will always see her…
Watching the sun’s orange colors drop below the trees,
And her face taking on a light glow;
Walking the sandy beach at dusk,
As the moon and stars begin to show.

I will always see her here…
Even though she’ll be out of sight;
I will always see her here…
In the best of all possible light.

She’ll always be here and in my heart…
As I walk the trails of the rest of my life.
