Right Flank Mark Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Right Flank Mark

It's all very well for young bucks
to be champing at the bit,
but for a commander to be
bamboozled the way
Captain Bugloss was
by wandering nomads
was a bit much,
even for the Owsla
commander-in-chief!

Captain Charlock was sent
to pursue the fugitives
but he was run down
on the iron road
by a train! Indeed,
just two nights later
Captain Mallow
was killed by a fox!

It was deduced later
that rabbits from the north
had crossed the iron road
and vanished southward.

How to replace two brave
and resourceful officers
like Charlock and Mallow
was the immediate concern
of the Owsla high command!

How, indeed?
