Rue The Distance Poem by Sara Militello

Rue The Distance

Rating: 5.0

Rue The Distance

I've been sighing all afternoon
and knowing better than most
why I sigh when you're not near
I pace the floor from wall to wall
and back again,

Ruing the web of distance
that has gathered between us
as often I do when I think
of the core of yearning I've become;
how with a single thought

It always comes down to this:
You're out of reach of my loving embrace.
How sweet the memory of your tender kiss!
Between knowing and yearning
such an abyss!

Would that time in hand be not
that shattered fragment of feeling
caused by fickle fate
loving you from afar my only solace
from the wretched aperture in our together!

But this is what we who know
forced partings
must learn to endure.
