Sailor, Pilot, Poet. Poem by Carl Roussell

Sailor, Pilot, Poet.

They're at the pub sipping liquid courage,
three pints of suds, bravery for the night
even though they know well the old adage,
"Don't try to drink your problems away - fright."
So rest today, tomorrow will take flight,
set sail for the place where mind and soul live,
that island where heart and feeling can give.

See the drunken poet, pen and paper,
the three of them might tell a good story.
Write it, stick to the rhyme, write it proper.
Will the words come in time? They must hurry!
What will the words find in him? Must hurry
before the drink has won the night, do tell
of sailors, pilots and poets - travel.

Wonderful poem, Carl- - I like your rhyme form! Enjoyed immensely! My father was a sailor who worked on planes and helicopters, and he'd been known to take a drink or two. But he wasn't a poet. That vocation fell to me!

Thanks for the read and comment. Rhyme Royal is such a cool poetic form to tell a story. I am happy to hear it made you think of your father, and that you picked up the pen. Have a good day.
