Saudade Poem by Jessica Lindsey

Saudade

What once was hers became mine
And has since passed on to another.
It's strange how we switch and struggle
and strive just to throw out the
hearts of eachother.
You once were a well traveled path
I knew each turn and each twist
I knew your thoughts by the look on your face
And the depth of your love when we kissed.
Now it's just black and white pieces
Of a photgraph torn and retaped
And a forgotten note to a friend
About you, and how I escaped.
It's so odd to think back to when
We would lie in bed for hours
Our conversations would never get dry
And we'd build forts under the covers.
I knew your face by heart
Your favorite color and food
And exactly how to pick you up
When you weren't in a good mood.
Now you're entirely Stranger
The things that had bonded us, gone,
Yet, still when I look at your picture
With her in it just looks so wrong.
