Sea Glass, Jewels And You Poem by Charlie Parant

Sea Glass, Jewels And You

We walk along the deserted beach every morning,
I walk, you are being carried
in a front pack because you’re only ten weeks old.
The constant side-to-side swaying motion
inevitably puts you to sleep
and I have to bend down gingerly
so I don’t wake you,
as I pick up the gems we have been hunting for.
I keep walking and searching until you wake up,
then we head back to the cottage for breakfast
where everyone else is awake now.
“Why do you take him out looking for sea glass every morning? ” they ask.
“He’s just a baby, he isn’t going to remember it..”
“But I will.” I answer.
Every time I look at our jar of jewels.
