Seeing My Past Poem by Ray Hansell

Seeing My Past

Rating: 5.0

I ran into her yesterday
Oh, what a surprise
I could still see the sparkle
That shined there in her eyes

I recognized that smile
That spread across her face
I looked at her hair
There I could see a trace

Of the years that had gone by
How it colored her hair grey
But, she still looked as pretty
As she did back in the day

We passed the time just talking
Catching up on each others life
She said she was a long time married
I told her I never did have a wife

She said, she had to go now
As her grandchild tugged at her sleeve
There was a look between us
That said, neither wanted to leave

So, I gave her a goodbye hug
Then she and her granddaughter walked away
Her and I had our chances
Back in our younger days

Funny how the years slip by
And fills one with regret
But as we grow older we realize
What we want we don't always get
