Self Defense Poem by Alfred Ramos

Self Defense

I saw a picture in the paper
Removal of brains on a wall with a scraper
Caption said you shot someone with a gun
Fired all the rounds until you were done

That look in your eyes is deceiving
They give off this lost glow
Little did I know?
It was a smile you were trying not to show

I read you claimed he was abusing you
And there’s no way I’m excusing you
Because excuses we can’t ration
In any crime of passion

Was that a bruise across your face?
It couldn’t hide the degree of disgrace
Pride you once held high
You can’t see because of a swollen eye

They say you want to act in your own defense
And that just doesn’t make any sense
Don’t you know the number one rule?
Defending yourself you have a client for a fool

All you can do is let the wheels of justice roll
Hope the have pity on your mortal soul
A man is dead by your hand
Someone must pay; it’s the law of the land
