Self Restraint Poem by Jacquelyn Gagnon

Self Restraint

self restraint.
let the truth be told
my heart i crushed, soul i sold
all that's left: pure light, pure gold..
what i did isn't new
what i did: i didnt do
self restraint, chained by my mind
holding back, feeling blind
the key to freedom i need to find
self restraint.
every time a want is triggered
i freeze the impulse and start to quiver
this all takes place in the blink of an eye
but that doesn't stop the thoughts from passing by
what if i let my actions go free
is that the secret to finding the key
the chances of that are very faint
and so i continue my self restraint
