Selfishness Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Selfishness

Selfishness

I smashed a cockroach with bare hand
Splashed
Then I thought of my talk with friend
In my car; and he said:
“Only we, the mankind, have conscious…”
Angered me then and now…

“Yes they do…”
I said and I believe.
“Have we been able to, think like them?
Be like them? As they live in their way
Under the same skin? ”

Then must have raised my voice…
Now I shout at myself, am angered:
“What was that? ”

Fact is that we, mankind
Are selfish…do not think…
Powerful and rulers are corrupt
They set laws…now we do…

It must have been the same
At the time of mammoths, dinosaurs
And others who ruled world.

Selfishness ended them
Same is to come to us
Very soon, hopefully…

Say goodbye my friend
The so called human or mankind.
