Shadow Poem by Sharad Rajimwale

Shadow

Little lamp lights up the little man
and throws his shadow on the wall,
large, enormous, intangible shadow.
He looks at it wondering
and pleased with it...... and with himself.
He can't catch it
But he forgets himself and regards it
seriously, in right earnest.

He walks out
in the dark night the shadow
stretched to the top of the trees
and beyond. He ca't believe it!
So big!
So great!
Dazed, he walks and lives with this shadow.

Till one day
His little lamp is snuffed out
or snatched away
and he dwindles to grass level, shriveled, crumpled he stares at the wriggling, hurrying insects
that must feed on him sooner or later.
