Shalom, Salaam, Salamat Poem by Jay P Narain

Shalom, Salaam, Salamat

Shalom, Salaam, Salamat,
the interfaith gesture of goodwill greetings,
Say it to welcome or say it for goodbye,
No hugs and kisses needed, the word says it all.

Literally Shalom stands for peace,
Salaam and Salamat offer warm welcome,
With it, the friends unite their bond,
With it, enemies thaw their differences.

Shalom, she said in her sweet voice,
Salaam, I said adoring the sweet girl,
Then came crashing two diverse cultures,
Then came the realization, we were fondly greeting each other.

Salamat, she said in her own sweet accent,
Then came the sweet smile and sparkling eyes,
Salaam, I said to feel her at home,
The diversity seemed to disappear with amicable hearts.
