Simple Pleasures - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

The protracted gaze of a goddess
As she parts with a glance frozen in the waters of time
The virgin flavor of Ghanian chocolate
On a cold snowy winter morning
The sensuous salivation to mutton Biriyani
On the banks of the Yamuna
The consummation of the sun and the moon
On a clandestine twilight
The endearing smile of a tiny-tot
As she tosses her arms and legs from a wooden cot
The cascading cadences of a magical waltz
Inspired by the serenading tide of the Blue Danube
Oh the beauty of simple pleasures
As they infect your soul
With a glimpse of providence
