Singe Poem by Vi Lanflagle

Singe

The hurt in his eyes
When I said those words
Hurt me inside
Like a fire singeing my skin.

The pain on his beautifully sculpted face
Tore at my heart.
I didn’t want to
But I walked away.

For the last time
I saw him
My last image of him
Crumpled on the ground.

His head in his hands
My pain mirrored his.
Only on the outside
My face was one of masked emotion.

Finally from his sight
The tears fall freely,
I hurt so much,
I can’t believe I let you go.

My sobs echoing around me
My heart is anguished,
My insides are screaming,
I don’t remember why I let you go.
