Sinking An Axe In Wooden Fate Poem by Timmy Tubbs

Sinking An Axe In Wooden Fate

Time strikes in little increments to a rhythm
That bears no math
I’m seeing a web of possibilities
But the heart tells me fate only walks one path
Fate doesn’t wield the power to change
So I will with my own hands

I struck my core with an axe built of pain
I hacked my walls until there was no more
Atop the ruins, I sat hiding trembling hands
And told myself, it was the only way
I must rebuild my walls with secret passages and stronger chains

Build my heart a little smaller and use the rest
To thicken my skin
Take the brain’s sharpened memories
To dig the lungs deeper so I can catch my breath from within
Take my voice carved of stone
And send it below to serenade the pain resting in my gut
I’ll replace all my I’s and my’s with you and yours
And close my eyes to listen more
I’ll replace my vision, the storytellers, with new eyes
Eyes that do not lie

Then I’ll raise anchor and drift shore to shore
Back through our white capped storm
To give this newby some trials
How much you want to bet I can steal your pain
With one perfect smile
