Six Miles Away
The wind moved with a thunderous roar
Violently ringing the bells
On the east side of the house
Then suddenly quieting
As the winds changed
Now coming from the west
I watched as the night
Swiftly flew across the sky
And the moon occasionally
Peeked out here and there
Only to be hidden again by the clouds
I've always known where you lived
Just six miles down the road
A little off the beaten path
And though it's been three years
Since you had left
I have thought about those six miles
You have never called
Or answered my letters
And I have always looked for you
Around and about town
But your life has always gone north
And mine south
While you sleep
Somewhere down a beaten path
About six miles away
