Sleepwalker Poem by prabhakar bhatlekar

Sleepwalker

Father left the village
for city and got matriculate,
26 years before I born.
Mother lost her first child
by accident,6 years
before my birth. Then
dust began gathering over
her drawings, flute and harmonium.
At 8 I began sensing the
difference of light and shadow
in my village and city-suburb.
Heard lot of stories of
ancestors and watched many
around, dumbfound. Falteringly
my story began.
Soon they pointed at me as a
'rolling stone'.
Wow, every turn meeting a new sky,
a new earth. Always like born again.
Skilfully I developed sleep-walking
and it was like floating in dreams.
Hear nothing.
A romantic nocturnal business.
So exciting it was, I should not
tell anyone, I thought.
If they get wind of it they
all will start sleepwalking.
