Slightly Into The Shade Poem by Terry Dunham

Slightly Into The Shade

I don't feel like
The life of the party
Anymore
I want to sit in
The back row
and observe
My opinion doesn't matter
Anymore
How absurd
I'm trying hard not
To harbor
Resentment
I'm doing good if
I manage not to cry
And it's hard when I
Remember
The good life I had
It only hurts more
To ask 'Why? '
Why am I in this
Predicament?
How can I get things
To change?
It's like a story I've read
But it's my name on
Every page
The ending is coming
And I don't quite recall
How it went
But the plot of the story
As I vaguely remember
Made a tear softly fall
From the eyes of all
Who took the time to read
So I sit in a corner
Slightly into the shade
And I watch with some
Interest
The motions made
By people who knew me
Then
Not now
And the story is playing out
And a tear will softly fall
And this shadow
Will hide it from all
