Snow Day Poem by Arik Carpenter

Snow Day

Snow Day
You wake up today
You look out the door
So now you lay
All a-bore.

Your day is shot
You can’t leave the house
You sleep a lot
Quiet as a mouse.

You look outside
Some kids are sledding
Your thoughts collide
About a wedding.

So like snow
All pretty and white
Nature can stow
A child’s delight.

The first snow
In a baby’s life
Not like a crow
So full of strife.

You think all day
About kids not born
To jump in that fray
But you love was torn
She would not stay.

To be a dad
Would be the best
Who could be sad
Not puff out their chest.

You fall asleep
The day is over
You count the sheep.

You wake up again
There is no snow
You can’t begin
To overthrow
That cloud
That sorrow
All sounds to loud
Your mind can’t borrow
You lost the day
To the morrow
The things you thought
All are gone
Those things you brought.
