So What Poem by Francis Duggan

So What

So what if your best efforts are never good enough
You have always hung in there even when the going was tough
Without losers there could not be a winner that always is the case
Though the glory always does go to the winner of the race
You may have only made up the numbers and though winners only seem to count
The sum total of your efforts to more than nothing does amount
Not everyone in the race can finish in first place
For to be a graceful loser is never a disgrace
Though victory is marvellous and victory tastes sweet
It takes a special person to be graceful in defeat
And you are not a quitter you never cease to try
And courage is a thing of you none ever can deny
So what if despite your best efforts you never seem to win
You always do hang in there and you never do give in.
